Engagement
Aroma Phyto Studio is developed in line with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) for digital research data, as described at the GO FAIR website
- We treat FAIR as an ongoing commitment and will continue to refine our data models, standards alignment, and documentation to further increase the FAIRness of our knowledge base.
- We assign unique identifiers to all data objects, describe them with machine‑readable schema.org metadata, and make them publicly available through a documented API to support both human and machine reuse.
- Each object is published with a clear usage license and documented provenance, and our data model builds on community standards where available, to maximise reliable, responsible reuse.
- We use established scientific naming and identification systems (for example IUPAC conventions for molecules and international botanical nomenclature for plants).
Persistent identifiers and open API
Aroma Phyto Studio employs a globally unique and persistent identifier system (APS‑ID) as a core component of our FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data approach.
APS-M0000785
Format: APS-{Letter}{6 digits}{Check digit}
Valid APS-IDs must match this pattern:
^APS-[A-Z]\d{6}\d$
- Must start with “APS-“
- Followed by exactly one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Followed by exactly 6 digits (0-9)
- Ending with 1 check digit (0-9)
Globally Unique
Each APS-ID is issued exclusively by the Aroma Phyto Studio registry authority. The combination of registry prefix (APS), entity type, and sequential number ensures no collisions with identifiers from other systems.
Authority: Aroma Phyto Studio
Domain: aroma-phyto-studio.com
Persistent
APS-IDs are permanent and never reassigned. Once an identifier is issued, it remains stable even if the entity name or other metadata changes.
The Aroma Phyto Studio commits to maintaining identifier resolution for the lifetime of the database. In the event of domain changes, 301 redirects will be implemented to preserve all existing APS-ID URLs.
Resolvable
Every APS-ID resolves via the REST API to machine-readable JSON (full entity data, canonical and localized URLs). The canonical URL links to the human-readable web page.
Web Access: Direct page URLs
API Access: /api/v1/resolve/{aps_id}
Machine-Actionable
Identifiers can be validated programmatically via check digit verification and resolved via REST API to structured data in JSON format.
Formats: JSON
Validation: Checksum algorithm included
Identifier Validation
Check Digit Algorithm
APS-IDs use a modulo-10 checksum for validation. The check digit is calculated by summing all digits in the sequence and taking the remainder when divided by 10.
Validation example:
For APS-M0000785:
- Extract digits:
000078 - Sum: 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 7 + 8 = 15
- Modulo 10: 15 % 10 = 5
- Check digit:

Identifier Resolution
Web Resolution
Each APS-ID is embedded in a permanent URL structure:
https://aroma-phyto-studio.com/studio/{entity-type}/{aps-id}-{name}/
Example for French:
https://aroma-phyto-studio.com/studio/fr/molecule/aps-m0000785-acetate-de-benzyle/
URLs are available in multiple languages:
- French:
/studio/fr/molecule/aps-m0000785-acetate-de-benzyle/ - English:
/studio/molecule/aps-m0000785-benzyl-acetate/
API Resolution
For programmatic access, use our REST API resolver endpoint as documented at the API Reference page.
Structured Metadata
Every entity page includes Schema.org structured data (JSON-LD) in the HTML header. This enables:
- Search engine indexing and rich snippets
- Academic citation managers
- Knowledge graph integration
- Semantic web applications
These identifiers and schema.org descriptions are part of Aroma Phyto Studio’s broader implementation of the FAIR data principles.

Licensing & provenance
All Aroma Phyto Studio content is published under the CC BY‑SA 4.0 International license, which permits reuse and adaptation provided that appropriate credit is given and shared works remain under the same license.
For each entity, provenance records trace the original data sources, curation steps, and update history so users can assess reliability and reproduce workflows.
Together, clear licensing and explicit provenance support responsible, transparent reuse of the knowledge base in both human and machine‑driven research.

Standardized scientific nomenclature
Standardized scientific nomenclature underpins the reliability and interoperability of the Aroma Phyto Studio knowledge base. In this section, the focus is on how molecules and plants are identified using internationally accepted naming systems so that data can be unambiguously understood, cited, and linked across external resources.
To create and maintain the Studio content, contributors draw on authoritative repositories.
